Dialogue
ADAPTED is committed to share its activities not only with the scientific community but also aims at addressing policy makers in Europe and in countries of the Global South, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, the general public in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, and groups addressed by ESRs individual research projects.
EADI, the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes, one of the ADAPTED practice partners, is guiding the consortium and individual researchers in this regard.
Communication and public engagement activities are also transferred to Sub-Saharan Africa together with African academic partners and ESRs doing their fieldwork in the region. In this regard, communication and engagement with research participants are a central issue.
Selection of completed and upcoming activities
Important dissemination activities of ADAPTED members are the active conference participation of ESRs, and the publication of results in scientific journals or more popular channels like blogs. Counting only the contributions with involvement of ESRs, 14 publications are completed since the start of the ADAPTED project, 27 additional publications are forthcoming or under preparation and 38 conference participations can be reported.
A joint publication involving a number of ADAPTED members is a special issue of the open access journal Politics and Governance (ISSN: 2183-2463), edited by three ADAPTED supervisors, Andrew Fischer (ESRs 12, 16), Wil Hout (ESRs 13, 14, 15) and Markus Kaltenborn (ESRs 11, 12), entitled "The Politics of Pro-Poor Policies in the Global South". The issue will be published in January 2026.
Regarding the dissemination of results to participants in ADAPTED research activities in the target countries, all ESRs informed relevant stakeholders about their activities and preliminary fieldwork results during the fieldwork periods. As the communication could not cover more detailed research results at that stage, the ADAPTED ESRs expressed their interest in follow-up dissemination activities after the completion of their PhDs.
